Core Construction
The ability of a pinch roll to apply consistent nip pressure begins with its core. Universal Urethane designs and refurbishes pinch roll cores to withstand the heavy loads of strip feeding.
- Core Materials: Steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, manufactured in solid or tubing construction.
- Precision Machining: Journals and bearing seats produced or restored to print for proper fit and alignment.
- Journal & Shaft Services: Shaft replacement, weld repair, and press-fit services extend core life.
- Dynamic Balancing: Balanced after machining and recovering for vibration-free operation and even nip pressure.
- Complete Assemblies: Supplied ready to install with shafts, bearings, couplings, and urethane coverings.
Urethane Covering
The urethane covering provides the traction necessary to pull strip while protecting sensitive finishes.
- Durometer Range: Custom polyurethane hardness, typically 85–95 Shore A for grip and durability.
- Surface Finish: Smooth ground for non-marking contact, or textured finishes for improved grip in oily or wet conditions.
- Grooved Options: Diamond, helix, herringbone, spiral, chevron, checkerboard razor slots, and crepe patterns available.
- Performance Properties: High abrasion resistance, impact absorption, and non-marring contact under repeated nip cycles.
- Bonding & Cure: Covers applied to grit-blasted cores with primer adhesives and heat curing for maximum adhesion and long-term performance.
