Urethane cutting edges are a high-performance, cost-effective replacement for traditional metal and rubber edges. The urethane compound delivers a dramatically longer service life — up to five times that of rubber — which means fewer replacements and less downtime over a season.
Every edge is a reversible design with two usable wear surfaces. When the first edge wears down, flip the blade and keep plowing, effectively doubling the life of a single part. Combined with a new compound that prices in line with rubber and neoprene, that's the lowest real cost per season of any surface-safe edge on the market.
Protects the surfaces you're paid to keep
Many plowing contracts require that surfaces be preserved, which rules out steel outright — steel marks pavement and damages sealants and patchwork. Polyurethane is gentle by design. Its elastic memory lets it act as a shock absorber: when it meets a raised rock, seam, patch, manhole, or curb, it flexes over the obstacle and returns to shape instead of violently tearing into the surface or damaging the plow.
That surface protection is also a revenue opportunity — running poly lets you bid and win the growing number of contracts that ban steel edges instead of turning them away.

Quiet, operator-friendly, and cleaner-scraping
A lot of commercial and residential plowing happens before daybreak, so noise matters. Polyurethane absorbs the vibration that creates noise, keeping routes quiet and cutting the cab chatter and operator fatigue a rigid steel edge produces.
That same elasticity creates a squeegee effect: the edge conforms to the surface and wipes it far cleaner than steel, including on gravel — clearing slush and wet snow while reducing wear-strip wear.
Polyurethane vs. rubber vs. steel: which cutting edge is best?
The right material comes down to the surfaces you plow and how often you want to replace the part.

Which should you choose?
- Polyurethane for residential and overnight routes, decorative or sensitive surfaces, mixed fleets, and any contract that restricts steel — the best balance of wear life, surface protection, and operator comfort.
- Steel only when you need maximum bare-pavement scrape and surface damage and noise aren't a concern.
- Rubber for the lightest-duty, lowest-cost jobs where frequent replacement is acceptable.
Bottom line: steel scrapes hardest on open pavement, but polyurethane wins on the routes that matter most to a commercial operator.
Why not UHMW?
UHMW is sometimes sold as a "poly" edge, but it isn't polyurethane. UHMW is softer, deforms more easily, and has poor dimensional stability — it's notorious for thermal expansion that can shift the edge by as much as 1/4″ across a temperature swing. Polyurethane is an elastomer: it resists deformation and returns to its original shape (at least 90% within 10 minutes of release), staying dimensionally stable through freeze-thaw while keeping its low-wear advantage. When someone compares "poly" edges, this is the distinction that matters.

We make polyurethane cutting edges to fit virtually any plow, any brand, as long as the measurements are right. Two ways to order:
- Cut to fit: send your bolt pattern and dimensions and we'll deliver a ready-to-bolt edge.
- Order a blank (holes not included): get an undrilled edge and punch the holes yourself using your old edge as a template.
Blanks ship without holes on purpose — an undrilled blank fits any bolt pattern, so one part number works across a mixed fleet. Need fasteners? Add a stainless mounting-hardware pack in the buy box above.
Installation Process of Our Polyurethane Snow Plow Cutting Edge
Installing a Surface Saver edge is straightforward and uses standard tools, with your old cutting edge doing double duty as both template and backing. Remove the worn edge, lay it over the new urethane blade, and drill the hole pattern through to match. Leave the urethane exposed by about the thickness of the blade — roughly ½″ on a ½″ edge, 1″ on a 1″ edge, and so on. Drill the new edge, then bolt it to the plow with the old worn blade behind it as backing support (highly recommended; heavy-duty washers work too), spacing the bolts about a foot apart. As the edge wears, lower it and redrill, or flip it 180° to use the second wear surface and get the most life out of it.

How long do polyurethane snow plow cutting edges last?
It depends on route conditions, but polyurethane outlasts rubber by up to five times under comparable use. Commercial and municipal fleets commonly get multiple seasons from a poly edge versus one to two from steel — and because the design is reversible, you can flip the blade and keep going once the first edge wears.
Will polyurethane cutting edges damage pavement, pavers, or markings?
