Bridle Rolls

A Bridle Roll is a tension changer. They are often shaped in aid for tracking and may be crowned.

Typical Hardness: (80-90 Durometer, Shore A)

The setup of bridle rolls is a vital component in a coil and continuous processing lines, as it facilitates the precise tension control of the metal strip as it passes through the various stages. By housing multiple driven rolls in an alternating over-and-under configuration, this setup allows for the fine-tuned tension adjustments as the metal strip passes over one roll and then under the next. Bridle rolls of many sizes and configurations are used for a wide range of coil processing applications, including tension leveling, cleaning, annealing, galvanizing and coating/painting. Bridle rolls can be positioned in various locations in the line to manage the strip’s tension entering and leaving each station or process tension zone.

WHY THE NEED FOR PRECISELY CONTROL TENSION?

The ability to precisely control tension is critical in these processes to ensure consistent quality and prevent defects. This is critical for achieving the desired thickness, surface finish, and mechanical properties of the final product. By adjusting the tension and speed of the bridle rollers, operators can control the elongation and deformation of the steel strip, resulting in a more uniform and high quality product. Multiple options are available to customize the bridles’ function and performance including roll scrapers, snubber rolls, threading guides and self threading options. Custom drive configurations are also available to save space or to work around existing equipment.

Bridle rolls provide tension on the strip so that it travels at a predetermined tension and speed. Bridle rolls are driven rolls that a coil strip passes through in a coil process line. They can be arranged in a 2 roll, 3 roll and 4 roll configuration. Since bridle rolls are much larger in diameter than a pinch roll, they are able to create tension on the strip by the friction created as the strip contacts the outside roll face.

Benefits of using urethane on a bridle roll

  • Flex properties: Urethane rollers have more flex properties.
  • Wear and abrasion resistant: Urethane rollers are wear and abrasion resistant.
  • Tight tolerances: Urethane rollers can achieve tight tolerances.
  • Non-marking: Urethane rollers do not mar or damage material they come into contact with.
